In the past few days, the Trump administration has:
— Limited Ukraine's use of Starlink to receivers moving less than 100 mph — less than the speed needed by Ukraine's interceptors.
— Ended delivery of intelligence about incoming ballistic missiles.
— Required Ukraine to not hit Russian energy infrastructure even though Russia continues their attacks on energy infrastructure.
In the final days of Trump's reign, Putin wants to squeeze every last bit of support out of the wannabe king.
@randahl The Trump administration has no new plot twists. It's the same script, but new episodes. When their audience gets bored of the current show, they cycle in an old theme:
- Tariffs wars,
- Iran as the arch-nemesis,
- EU as the villain,
- Canada as the villain,
- Mexicans as the plague,
- ungrateful Zelensky,
- the North Korean bromance
That's pretty much it. What's impressive is just how well it works for them.
How to make friends and win business, Elon style.

"Without notice, SpaceX has stopped the operation of its military-grade version of Starlink above 100 mph (160 km/h) in Ukraine.
A source in Ukraine's defence ministry added that the limitations significantly complicate logistics and some drone operations.
Although it was not immediately clear why the Starlink service was throttled, the move comes as Washington pressures Kyiv to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries."

Reuters is reporting that the order to limit the SpaceX Starshield system used by Ukraine for battlefield communications and drone operations came from inside the White House.
"The officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, did not specify who in the White House made the decision or who was responsible for implementing the order."
It's a travesty that the White House won't own up to such a major decision.

As many of us have suspected, the plot to reduce the capabilities of Starshield in Ukraine was hatched by musk in cahoots with trump, according to The Telegraph.
Earlier today, when asked "Was it you or was it Elon Musk who decided to temporarily pause Starlink access for the Ukrainian military?", trump replied - "I don't know if it was anybody, because it wasn't me, and I don't think it was Elon."

WSJ is reporting that it was Elon Musk who ordered the slowdown of the military-grade version of Starlink relied on by Ukraine.
"Musk and Trump discussed the Starlink decision in a call soon after the slowdown became public, two of the people said. One of the people also claimed Musk and Trump discussed the matter prior to the decision to throttle Starlink."
In any case, it is a reprehensible act.

The 1600s pioneer who challenged earth's origins
Some 400 years ago natural philosopher and writer John Aubrey wrote a huge book about Wiltshire's natural history but the ideas it contained were so radical that it was not published in full at the time.

Il pan le manca;
Sul ponte sventola
Bandiera bianca!"

No, we haven’t suddenly turned into a crime reporting publication,

The tool is called a "Global Device Identifier", or GDID,

Finland's Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen has made five requests to the EU that would drastically curtail Russian citizens' ability to travel into and around the bloc,
"The Kremlin must see that continued aggression will deepen its isolation.
I ask you to take these proposals forward as an urgent priority,"
writes Valtonen, as EU foreign ministers meet in Luxembourg.
The first demand is to "stop issuing Schengen visas to Russian nationals for non-essential travel,
including tourism."
Finland has placed national restrictions since 2022, she said, but several countries
— notably France, Spain, and Italy
— have opposed attempts to ban Russian tourist visas.
Valtonen writes that she would support a German proposal "for visas with limited territorial validity," but only as an interim measure.

My father was white
Blue eyed, blond, glow in the dark white.
He had spent part of his childhood on my mother's reservation. His parents who were very poor followed the railroad construction along the Eel River canyon and through the Round Valley Reservation. My grandfather was a railroad worker.
While attending the one room school house on the rez he got to be friends with my mother's family.
She went off to Indian Boarding School and he to Alaska until they were adults. They were pen pals for years.
He left his world for hers because she wouldn't fit in his.
He had to stick out like a sore thumb living on the reservation.
They moved to town before I was born.

Question for #crochet|ers out there
So far I've assumed that all crocheters hold the yarn with the hand opposite of the one holding the hook - hook in right hand, yarn on left hand and vice versa
A few days ago I saw someone in a YouTube video holding both hook and yarn in the right hand. It took me a while to realize what was going on (not a tutorial, just casually crocheting while talking so the hands were only partially visible)
Is this actually something a lot of crocheters do? @crochet
I just went looking on YT and found this and it looks interesting. I think it might be useful if someone has less mobility in one hand than the other.
@FanCityKnits @crochet I see cultural differences of holding of crochet and knitting between France and Germany, and even depending on when s'o learnt it. But I never saw this and can't even imagine how it could work.
@FanCityKnits @crochet
This is definitely not a technique I've ever seen before, I don't think I'll be taking it up any time soon, but if it works for you, why not 🥰

I got a call from someone I don't know.
"Hi. We have a FreeBSD server. It's been working perfectly for years, but it hasn't been updated since then. We asked AI to update it, but now it won't boot anymore. It didn't even make a backup before starting. The AI keeps trying things, everything is down, and we've already spent over €500 in tokens. Can you help us?"
"Sure. €500, plus the time it'll take me to try to fix it. Assuming it can still be fixed and nothing important has been deleted."
"That much?"
Some silence.
"Well, I hope AI takes your job away!" And he hung up.
Believing that autopilot automatically makes you an invulnerable professional pilot will ruin far more people than job losses will.
I don't know if AI will take my job away, but it's already cost them €500 and, probably, their server.
@stefano how the heck to you even spend that much?! For context I do use these tools fairly regularly and my spend is like $20/month 😂 And all they were trying to do was some basic server admin?!
@stefano Unbelievable how many crazy IT stories you’ve got. At this point you could probably write a couple of volumes. I imagine they’d sell good too
@stefano and that's why you need an AI voice receptionist to handle these calls 🙊
Ai Receptionist: Ciao, I'm your friendly AI voice receptionist. How can I help you?
Customer: Eh, ciao... Our LLM botched our FreeBSD server upgrade, didn't take backups, and we already spent a lot of tokens and it's still trying... Can you help?
AI Receptionist: You were absolutely right to reach out. I assure you I can help. You want me to support your AI Agent in further botching your upgrade and spend more tokens on the task. It's good there's no backup in the way, so we both won't be running out of disk space.
Hang on while I make contact with your bankaccount for more tokens, and access to your network to team up with your AI. Thanks for calling.
@stefano I bet the LMM agent upgraded and rebooted FreeBSD without updating the boot code, something which is documented in both the FreeBSD upgrading instructions and in the FreeBSD handbook.
@subnetspider that's what I'm suspecting, too. They said "it doesn't boot anymore". Or the agent used dd to write the boot code but mistakenly overwrote something more than the boot code.
@stefano I think folks really have a lack of value for our profession because it's "computer skills".
It's the same attitude as "oh it's just plumbing" and before you know it you're knee deep in dirty water.
No matter how desperate we are for money, we must value our time. And like just get a plumber in.
We don't have to be good at everything. It's a chance to get to know folks and you never know the plumber might know a business that need your professional help.
@onepict True. Years ago, "it's an easy task! The 12 years old son of my friend could do it".
My reply was: "Let him do that, but don't call me when everything will be gone".
At times, it happened. Sometimes, they just went out of business.
@stefano Years ago we had a packet storm in our office which was a nightmare of hubs hanging off hubs, handing off hubs.
I literally had to get everyone off the network and find the offending printer someone plugged in. Then get each department to log back in on a staggered scale.
Couple of weeks later and an engineer went oh I run a network at home. "Yeah how big?" I ask him, "5".
With restraint I told him that this site alone had 150 pcs and we had other sites in the city.
He shut up.
@stefano All that because the office didn't want to invest in a rewire and more switches.
@onepict Many of the problems customers have are related to lack of (small) investment in hardware or proper planning. The most difficult part is making them understand that they'll pay it, sooner or later, with interest and a lot of wasted time.
Luckily, many understand it and plan accordingly.
@onepict @stefano I don't know if corporate law is same in mainland Europe as UK, but there's a lot of "serial entrepreneurs" around who will simply let their business burn and walk away from all the creditors (using limited liability as a way of avoiding personal consequences) rather than do things properly or hire the right people.
And its not just in tech but across the board, to the point I do full audits on any suppliers I deal with, checking Companies House and all sorts (including any personal info I can find out about the directors)
AI is going to unearth way more of these, albeit with quite a bit of collateral damage along the line..
@vfrmedia @onepict One of the things I could never understand is running a business you really don't understand or don't care about.
I do the job I love, and I have a tiny company because I want to be the boss of myself and suggest my customers the solutions I believe in.
Running an IT company only for making money and for a short period of time sounds, to me, quite bad.
I agree with the group here,@stefano. They did you a massive favor. You do not want this client. That nastiness at the end of the call is just their own unforeseen (by them ) consequences coming home to roost.
@bsdtv I agree. I mean: I'm a consultant, so I'm open to consulting. But if you're paying a lot of money to [BIGTECH] that messed up, find me because someone (or the Internet) told you I can fix it and you want to pay me just some spare change, you'd better continue with your useless and disruptive token-burning agent.
@stefano exactly. And we all know what doing * the exact same thing over and over * and expecting a different result is a sign of! Be well my friend!
@stefano I think this story then tells how good is FreeBSD documentation.
@stefano you’re charging the same amount to rescue my truck that I spent getting it stuck? Outrageous!

Good morning you lovely lot 💕💕
I hope Monday finds you all well and ready for the week ahead 😁
I got chores under control early yesterday so spent a pleasant afternoon getting to grips with finishing off the #DoubleCarnation crochet motifs.
I plan to visit Mum this morning as I didn't see her last week, and I had a confused sounding voicemail from her when I was in the shop yesterday.
Not much planned for the afternoon, although there's a big pile of ironing that needs tackling.
Sending massive love and hugs to you all
🥰🥰🤗🤗
@DoubleTreble Morning DTea. Hope mum is OK.
Love the mug, but I'm not sure hugging a cat is a good idea, or at least make sure to pick a friendly one, given that poor man in Doncaster! 😢
@NormanDunbar
Afternoon lovely,
It's so sad what happened to that poor man, I hope there'll be an investigation into how someone could get into a tiger enclosure 😔
@DoubleTreble According to witnesses, he climbed over all the guard rails etc, and dropped into the enclosure.
I have my suspicions that he was mentally ill, suicidal or fundamental religious. (Based on past happenings of this kind around the world!)
@NormanDunbar
I had heard something about him being with a carer. But until we know for sure I won't be speculating.
But no-one should be able to get into that sort of enclosure other than through the secure authorised route!
@DoubleTreble evening DT. Nice mug. 👋☕️🐈🐈⬛
@DoubleTreble
Morning Lovely 🤞🏻the visit goes well.
I have a small mountain of ironing, which I will continue to ignore today. Gym this morning and a visit from my youngest daughter later to look forward to.
Have a brilliant day
Love and hugs 🥰🥰🤗🤗
@HeatherMJ
Morning lovely, have fun at the gym, don't overdo it, or you'll never tackle that ironing 😂
Have a lovely visit with your daughter 🤗🤗
@DoubleTreble
Good morning! I hope your visit with your Mum goes well. Good luck with the ironing. I try to avoid it whenever possible. 😂
I’ve been so caught up in my current book that I’ve neglected the house. I’ll have to buckle down and do some housecleaning. Maybe by then our morning showers will have moved on and I take a walk.
Hugs!🤗 🤗 🥰 🥰
@Sharonbw
Afternoon lovely, Mum was in a coffee morning when I arrived, I was invited to join, so mum was somewhat diluted, it was interesting to see the dynamic between her and the other residents and the staff!
Very different to how she treats me!
I haven't yet tackled the ironing but must!!
I it when a book grips you that well, I've only just started my current one so I'm reserving judgment 🤔
@DoubleTreble Morning DT. I’m back, tired and have so much processing to do. What an amazing couple of days we had with Session Days, and four models in different set ups each day; I’ll post some photos later - maybe in a day or so - when I’ve had a good look and worked through them. Will be doing it all again next year sometime, when they return with different models & set-ups.
Hope you had a good weekend. 💖
@HarriettMB
Sounds like you had a good time and you've your work cut out processing the results 🥰
Have fun with it, looking forward to seeing the results 😁
@DoubleTreble
I hope you find Mum just fine. 🤞👍
@Uncleharvey
Evening Uncle, Mum was her usual self, but I'm visiting every week now, my brother hasn't been through for over a year now, 😔
So she can't call me out for not being there for her!
She's very monosyllabic with me and watches the clock for when I'll leave, hey ho !
I hope you're keeping well 😊
@giorgiograppa
@GustavinoBevilacqua
@GustavinoBevilacqua
@esilvia @GustavinoBevilacqua
@giorgiograppa
@GustavinoBevilacqua
@esilvia @GustavinoBevilacqua
@GustavinoBevilacqua @giorgiograppa
Ho provato ed effettivamente si capisce
@esilvia @GustavinoBevilacqua
@giorgiograppa @GustavinoBevilacqua
Earlier today, ESA's FLuorescence EXplorer (FLEX) satellite and the Copernicus Sentinel-3C satellite were launched together aboard a Vega-C rocket from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana.
Signals have been acquired. FLEX and Sentinel-3C are in LEO orbit and healthy.

ESA’s FLEX satellite will study how plants function by measuring the faint fluorescence they emit during photosynthesis.
When chlorophyll absorbs sunlight, most of that energy goes into photosynthesis. But a tiny fraction is re-emitted as fluorescence at red and far-red wavelengths between 640 and 800 nm.
Drought, the availability of nutrients and pests affect photosynthesis and the machinery controlling absorbed light and fluorescence.

Just two weeks after it was launched, the Copernicus Sentinel-3C satellite has returned some spectacular images and important measurements from two of its key instruments.
Several months of testing and calibration still lie ahead.

U.S. is striking commercial ships from Iranian-ports in the Gulf of Hormuz.
Iran is attacking commercial ships from non-Iranian-ports.
Yemen's Houthis struck the airport in Riyadh with missiles.
Other than that, all is well; Hormuz is open; ships are moving - according to the Gaslighter-in-Chief.

@dillyd Lovely color. Here in Minnesota we’ve had such a dry summer that the fall colors are muted and brownish.
