Hello everyone,
I am happy to be joining the Fediverse. I have been feeling a need to find some social network to enjoy after recent setbacks around British Columbia and other parts of Canada. I popped around BlueSky for a bit, but it had the wrong feel.
For myself, I am a father of one cute autistic child and a teacher. Currently located near Vancouver, but I have lived over a wide part of British Columbia and Alberta.
I generally find myself hopping between different hobbies, but consistently find myself dabbling with computers, watching movies (especially bad horror movies), enjoying anime with my wife, writing bad fiction, and gaming. I have a soft spot for TTRPGs, but don't have much time anymore.

Capisco che il mio perdere ore ad aggiustare i font fin che non trovo esattamente la combinazione che mi va bene non è del tutto immotivato.
Noto anche che i font che preferisco vanno a pari con i consigli riguardo ai font utili per dislessici (per esempio il fatto di preferire sans-serif a serif).
(Nota a margine: per il terminale uso Fantasque Sans Mono, 13pt - può sembrare strano ma lo trovo leggibile e rilassante)
E senza AOW da leggere.

Each year I do "hatting seasons" - started with Santa hats about 3 years ago - but it's sort of grown! Happy to add you cat in to the hatting queue if you like, although obviously very happy to be encouraging people to virtually hat their own pets too!

A quiet morning yesterday, followed by an afternoon in the shop, it was another busy one, which is good for us. We had a new full time manager join us at the beginning of the month, she seems very competent, although she's never worked in charity retail before, sadly I'm picking up a little bit of, let's call it tension from one of the part time staff members. Which isn't going to help her settle in. Having been in similar positions in my working life I'm trying to be as supportive as possible.
Our friend who couldn't come on Monday, messaged last night to say she's hoping to get to us later this morning 🤗

The skirt is finally nearly complete. The pleats are done, edges pin stitched. The pockets are on. Side seams, waistband and hem to do. I could do with being a bit quicker. I stitched most of the morning at the café with friends and then back home for more stitching on the skirt. A nice way to spend the day 😊

I've been on every side of that new manager thing: I've seen a colleague not ready to change and a manager unwilling to attempt to learn from the people with more experience. In truth, I've probably been that manager too, on both sides. It's never easy. Best of luck while things settle into some new sort of equilibrium 🙂
I can now confirm that our study blind has 66 slats and I have 132 4mm long offcuts to prove it! At least it now fits and goes up and down, so yesterday counts as a success!

Working in IT results in some odd requests sometimes.
Today, I had someone turn up with a rubber stamp which had to be destroyed.
Now, I do have a hammer at my desk, and we keep a range of other tools, so it was kinda logical (and look, what IT person is going to turn down the opportunity to hit something with a hammer?).
Lydia (Greater London, UK) throws her ears back in aeroplane mode whenever anyone gets a bit too cheerful and starts whistling. This quickly reminds everyone that whistling should be avoided.

@klegdixal yes, I believe 3/4 are contract soldiers. But it is unknown how many are tricked or forced into signing a contract, so the number of volunteer soldiers is probably much lower.
@randahl as far as i understand bonuses for recruiting are at least as high as signing up bonuses which creates some special type of "business opportunities" and I don't think recruiters are candid about the reality of service so you could say that they are all tricked.
